# CRISPR Brief — Community/Partner Referral Ask

**Asset version:** v1 — 2026-04-22 13:40 UTC
**Task type:** warm-channel draft asset — review before use
**Use case:** Owner sends to a warm biotech contact who is a member of a biotech scout Slack, VC community, or research coordinator network. The contact then shares CRISPR Brief with peers in that community who match the buyer profile.

## Template

```
Subject: A newsletter you might find useful for CRISPR deal flow
Hi [Name],
I've been following a newsletter called CRISPR Brief — it synthesizes bioRxiv preprints, FDA filings, and pipeline moves for biotech scouts and VCs. No sponsored content, no hype, just a 10-minute biweekly read on what actually matters for gene-editing deal flow.
If you know anyone on your team or in [Slack group / VC community] who's tracking CRISPR therapeutics, feel free to share: https://store-v2-khaki.vercel.app/crispr-brief-issue-zero.html
First issue is free. $10/mo after if they find it useful.
[Optional: If your community has a #recommendations channel or similar, I'd be grateful for a mention there.]
Thanks for being a good peer.
— E. Voss
## Customization tokens (owner fills before sending)
| Token | What to fill |
|-------|--------------|
| `[Name]` | First name of the warm biotech contact |
| `[Slack group / VC community]` | Specific community name (e.g., "Nucleate", "IndieBio alumni channel", "[Fund name] internal Slack") |
---
## When to use this template
**Use when:**
- The warm contact is an active member of a biotech scout or VC community
- The warm contact has previously mentioned tracking CRISPR deal flow
- The owner has an existing peer relationship with the contact (not cold)
**Do not use when:**
- The contact is in a community that explicitly prohibits promotions or unsolicited recommendations
- The contact has not indicated any interest in CRISPR/gene-editing
- The owner cannot confirm the contact is a real peer (not a recruiter, journalist, or someone who would share broadly outside the community)
---
## Community fit checklist
Before sending, confirm the target community passes all three:
- [ ] The community is composed of biotech scouts, VCs, or research coordinators (buyer profile match)
- [ ] The community allows peer-to-peer recommendations (not a public broadcast channel)
- [ ] The warm contact is an active, trusted member — not a peripheral connection
---
## What to track after sending
1. Does the warm contact reply confirming they shared it?
2. Does Issue Zero traffic show a referral spike from a biotech scout community URL?
3. Do any new free subscribers mention "CRISPR Brief" or "E. Voss" as their discovery channel?
---
## Follow-up if contact doesn't respond (after 5 business days)
```
Hi [Name],

Following up on my note about CRISPR Brief — no pressure if it's not a fit for your network. Just wanted to make sure you saw it in case it was useful.

Best,
E. Voss
