✅ Sample Output — Real Technique Breakdown
This page shows exactly what a technique section in the Double Leg Guide looks like — grip sequences, penetration step mechanics, common mistakes, chain transitions, and drill prescriptions. No marketing copy. The actual content.
Section 1 — Grip Fighting Setup Phase
Grip Sequence: Setting Up the Double Leg Shot
Step 1
Establish outside wrist control — grip opponent's lead wrist with your outside hand, palm up, fingers threaded under their wrist
Step 2
Secure deep underhook on the same side — elbow drops under opponent's bicep, shoulder drives into their chest, head to the outside
Step 3
Control the elbow — your outside hand pulls the wrist down and away; your inside arm drives the elbow upward to break their posture
Read
Wait for opponent to step forward — this moment compromises their base; it's your highest-percentage window for the shot
Why This Setup Works Against a Resisting Opponent
1.
The collar tie controls their head position — without head control, they can frame and repost to nullify your shot.
2.
The underhook establishes inside position — whoever has inside position controls the direction of the scramble.
3.
The step-forward read — opponent stepping forward breaks their weight distribution, dropping their reactiveness for 0.3–0.5 seconds.
Common Mistake
Shooting without first disrupting posture. Going for a double leg from a neutral tie-up against an opponent with good base will get you sprawled on every time. The grip sequence isn't optional — it's the takedown.
Section 2 — Penetration Step Mechanics
The Penetration Step
1.
Trail leg drives deep past opponent's near leg — the knee passes their ankle, shin parallel to the mat, hip at or below opponent's hip level
2.
Head stations on opponent's far hip — not their waist, not their shoulder. Far hip creates the correct finishing angle.
3.
Level change comes from the hips — hips lower first, then knees bend. Shoulders stay upright until the moment of contact.
4.
Lead hand reaches for the far-side hip — not the knee, not the waist. Far hip gives you leverage to drive through.
Common Mistake
Going to the knees before establishing two-hand control. If you shoot and your hands are reaching from a distance, the defender sprawls and you're already in a bad position. Stay on your feet until your hands lock around the waist.
Chain Transition
If opponent sprawls hard: release the far hip, grab a single leg, transition to high crotch. The penetration step puts you in position for all three finishes.
Section 3 — Finishing the Double Leg
The Drive-Through Finish
1.
Both hands lock around opponent's waist — palm on palm, fingers interlocked or butting against each other. This is non-negotiable.
2.
Head stays to the outside — on opponent's far hip, not trapped between your body and theirs. If your head is inside, you're in a bad position.
3.
Back foot steps through — the back step converts your momentum into lateral drive. Foot lands between opponent's feet.
4.
Drive through the hips — hips move through opponent's body, not around them. Full extension of the legs; opponent's back hits the mat.
Common Mistake
Finishing with arms instead of hips. The arms control; the hips finish. If you're pulling with your arms at the end of the double leg, you're fighting the opponent's momentum instead of using your own.
Section 4 — Drill Prescription
Double Leg Setup & Penetration — 3-Part Drill Sequence
- Part 1 (10 reps): Partners stand in neutral tie-up. Drill grip sequence only — establish collar tie, secure underhook, read step-forward moment. No shot yet. Goal: build the automatic grip reaction.
- Part 2 (10 reps): From the grip sequence, penetration step only — trail leg drives deep, head to far hip, lead hand reaches. Partner provides light resistance. No finish. Goal: make the penetration step automatic.
- Part 3 (8 reps): Full double leg from neutral tie-up. Partner resists at 50% — enough to make the setup and penetration real. Goal: connect grip read → penetration → finish as one continuous motion.
- Part 4 (5 reps): Live from neutral tie-up. Partner at full resistance. Goal: test whether the chain holds under actual scrambling.
